Timetable kiosk system of S-Bahn Munich |
|
|
Munich’s S-Bahn is one of the most extensive and heavily used in Europe. The S-Bahn’s central tunnel section between Laim and Ostbahnhof operates at capacity with 30 trains per hour and direction. As passenger demand increases on such a heavily used system, punctuality and service will no longer meet acceptable quality standards.
The Bavarian State Ministery of Economic Affairs, Infrastructure, Transport and Technology is planning two large infrastructure investments to improve Munich’s S-Bahn service:
- a second tunnel under the city, parallel to the existing tunnel
- a maglev system from Munich’s main station to the airport.
The Ministry places a high emphasis on using a transparent communication process for these types of large projects. SMA und Partner AG used Viriato to help meet this objective in planning for the S-Bahn improvement program. Specifically, Viriato was used to:
- Develop new line network and new timetable
- Analyze and illustrate travel time changes by alternative for authorities and interested organisations
- Prepare Viriato Interactive Timetable Kiosk system for queries by the public.
The Viriato Interactive Timetable Kiosk system will be installed at information points in the Munich main station and the airport.
