DB Mid-Term Long Distance Service Planning |

Deutsche Bahn’s long distance passenger network is being continuously extended. As part of the German Transport Infrastructure Masterplan many links will either be improved or added to the existing network in years to come. These adaptions will reduce travel time and therefore dramatically change long distance timetables.
SMA und Partner AG has supported supply-side planning and given advice in long distance services since 1993. During this cooperation SMA has also helped to establish new methods and organisational structures necessary for successful scheduling. As a result the Deutsche Bahn decided to introduce our IT-System Viriato to support planning and data exchange within the company.
Further milestones of this cooperation can be found in the 1999 and 2000 timetables, the opening of the airport station in Frankfurt, several tilting-train lines and in the extra trains to the EXPO Hannover in Summer 2000. Changes to the 2003 timetable are even more extensive due to the opening of the new line Köln – Rhein/Main and the introduction of the ICE 3 generation train sets.
