Running Time Calculator Print E-mail
Beispiel: FahrzeitrechnerOne of the core tasks in timetable planning is calculating a train’s technically possible running time, but until a decade or two ago, timetable planners were more or less content using empirical values, based on estimation techniques with roots going back to the steam age. Viriato makes it possible to calculate very precise running times that consider all contributing parameters.

Viriato’s Running Time Calculator enables timetable planners to calculate the running time for any train or combination of trains. This allows planners to easily compare running times for different vehicle types, (e.g. standard versus tilt-technology vehicles) or different infrastructure alternatives (e.g. different line segment speed profiles).

The Running Time Calculator includes a library of tractive-effort/speed diagrams for common engines from several European railways, and also allows users to easily define tractive-effort/speed diagrams for other engines.

Once calculated, the running time can be transferred directly to Viriato’s train data and used to refine the timetable design.

Functionality

  • Gradients, tunnel and curve resistance information;
  • User-defined direction and track-specific speeds;
  • User-defined station-specific entry and departure speeds;
  • Train configuration changes during train run (e.g. adding or removing vehicles to the consist);
  • User-defined parameters for energy-saving operating techniques;
  • Standard tractive-effort/speed values from Viriato’s extensive library or user-defined values

Display/Output

  • Diagram illustrating line speed and train speed with optional display of gradients and curve profile;
  • Log file recording of all calculated parameters including energy consumption;
  • Travel time data can be directly transferred to Viriato’s train definition.
