The Netgraph Print E-mail
Beispiel einer Netzgrafik (Knoten Bern gemäss Fahrplan 2005)The introduction of coordinated nationwide timetables created the need to present time/space relationships not only on particular line segments but also on a network-wide basis and it marked the birth of the “netgraph”. This representation, when supplemented by other information such as timetables, duty schedules, and track occupancy plans, is suitable for internal railway purposes. All these documents reflect the onward or circulating progress of trains and are based on a finite amount of common data.

A netgraph is a schematic representation of a railway network and its timetable. Each pair of time-coordinated trains appears in the netgraph as a line connecting the stations used for the trip. Netgraphs make it possible to represent all the routes in a network together with their mutual relationships (e.g. connections between trains at stations). A netgraph may also be represented in simplified form as a line map without arrival/departure times. Viriato was the first to successfully combine the netgraph, graphic timetable and tabular timetable into a single integrated planning tool.
