A system supporting the path management process at DB Passenger

With the institutional separation of railways into infrastructure managers and railway undertakings the exchange of information on train paths becomes a crucial function in the overall production process. Typically the supervising authority fixed the legal and chronological framework for ordering train paths in a network access decree.

With the train path portal DB Netz established a system supporting the pro-cedure of path ordering and offering. It controls the complete workflow of this process. The objective was to offer a unified, XML-based interface to all in-ternal and external customers.

SMA und Partner AG realised an interface to the train path portal within the Viriato system, used in DB Passenger for the path management. This func-tional extension integrates the complete path ordering process within Viriato and controls the corresponding workflow. With this solution, the railway un-dertaking has information available on the actual status of the ordered train paths at any time.
